Otago Racing Club members are happy to share the Wingatui racecourse with Forbury Park Trotting Club if that is where they choose to move.

Forbury Park Trotting Club Board chairman Craig Paddon announced last week it would leave its venue and look to sell the South Dunedin park.

The club would instead consider being part of the development of an all-weather, multi-code equestrian centre at a greenfields site in the Dunedin area, or at Wingatui.

Otago Racing Club general manager Grant Gaskin yesterday said discussions around the South Dunedin club sharing the Wingatui site in Mosgiel, were "years old" .

"It is a discussion that has been going on for a long time.

"As a club, we would welcome them at Wingatui."

There were many different scenarios of how it could work to provide both club’s facilities at the site, he said.

"There is always limitations, but also, we have a will to make it work for them.

"We are quite open to do that and to work out the formula for that to come together."

Meetings between Forbury Park site stakeholders have been happening throughout the week to discuss the future of the site.
