
But the former Dunedin singer is charged with excitement after being selected to sing God Defend New Zealand on United States soil prior to tomorrow’s 2.30pm kick-off of the All Blacks’ test against Fiji at the Snapdragon Stadium, in San Diego.
"It’s an absolute honour.
"I’ve had the thrill of singing at a few big sporting events in the United States, but this has the greatest impact on me, by far.
"Nothing comes close to singing for my home country and the All Blacks."
She said it was the first time she had sung at an All Blacks match.
"In the past, I have sung the American anthem at Madison Square Garden for the New York Rangers ice hockey team, and the New York Liberty WNBA [Women’s National Basketball Association] team.
"But I say again, this means more to me than anything — a huge honour."
She now lives in Los Angeles with her husband, former New York policeman and professional singer Daniel Rodriguez.
The Dunedin born-and-bred musician studied singing under her mother, prominent Dunedin opera singer Kathi Craig, before moving to the US and studying privately with teachers in San Francisco, New York and London.
"I generally sing a lot in New York and the United Kingdom.
"I have a group called The Highland Divas. We just headlined New York City Tartan Week, and sang at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in 2022.
"I also sing with Daniel, my husband, who is a well-known tenor and is known as ‘the singing policeman’."
