Chch home 'severely damaged' by fire

Firefighters remain at the scene of a fire that has left a house "severely damaged" near Christchurch this morning.

Seven fire trucks were called to the blaze on Ryans Rd in Yaldhurst, just before 2am, Southern fire communications manager Brent Dunn said.

He said no people were injured in the fire, but the house had been "severely damaged".

This morning, two fire crews remained at the scene, he said

"The fire is out for the most part, but there is still a small amount of burning around the chimney area... they're having to remove the roof to get at it, and completely extinguish it.

"It is a difficult messy job having to deconstruct the house and get to unusual, small spaces."

Mr Dunn said they were unsure as to the cause of the fire at this stage.
