Police say they have identified the owner of a bike left near Lake Ōhau in the Mackenzie Basin and are no longer seeking information.

The bike has been at the Temple Campsite shelter, off Lake Ohau Rd, since at least December 27, they believe.

Earlier this morning, police issued an appeal on social media for help, as they were concerned it may have been left by a tramper or climber who may have got into trouble in the area.

In a brief update later in the morning, police said they now know who the owner is and thanked the public for their assistance.
