The High Court in Christchurch was hushed for almost 20 minutes today while the Bain retrial jury saw edited video footage of the Every St house where five people lay dead.
The only sound during the film was the voice of Milton Weir, then a detective sergeant and officer in charge of the scene on June 20, 1994, the day five members of the Bain family were shot.
As the camera moved through each room in the dark and cluttered house, Mr Weir explained what was being shown.
The body of Robin Bain could be seen lying on the floor of the front lounge, his back against a bean bag and a rifle nearby. Also visible in that room was a computer in a curtained alcove, the message ''Sorry, you are the only one who deserved to stay'' showing on the screen.
The jurors also saw the bodies of Margaret Bain, Laniet, Arawa and Stephen Bain where they lay, in the case of Margaret and Laniet, in their beds, and in the case of Arawa and Stephen, on the floor of their bedrooms.
David Bain (36), the oldest of the children, is accused of killing the rest of the fanily and making it appear his father, Robin, had shot them then committed suicide.
His second trial is now into its 8th day of hearing before Justice Graham Panckhurst and the jury.
