Driver dies in hospital after crash with tractor

The driver of a ute involved in a collision with a tractor has died almost a week later from his injuries.

A black Nissan Patrol ute and a John Deere sprayer tractor collided on River Rd near Port Waikato bridge, close to Tuakau on Tuesday last week.

Constable Paul Evatt, of the Counties Manukau Serious Crash Unit, confirmed this afternoon the driver of the ute had died in hospital. His name is yet to be released.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, had to be cut from the wreckage of the ute and was airlifted to Auckland City Hospital in a critical condition. A passenger in the ute received minor injuries, while the tractor driver was not hurt.

Police still want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash, which occurred about midday, Mr Evatt said.

Anyone with information should call police 021 192 1527, or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
