Elderly man bound and robbed

Police are asking for public help as they hunt down an intruder who robbed an elderly Te Awamutu man then tied him up in his home yesterday.

The 81-year-old victim was asleep in his home in Kakapuka Rd when a man broke in, woke him and demanded petrol and money.

The intruder tied up the man, and left with cash and goods, Detective Bernadette Kelly of Te Awamutu police said.

"He was bound by his wrists and ankles," she told NZPA.

"He was quite shaken by it, but he is a strong fellow, a farmer, and is determined he will recover from it." The robbery took place between 9.30pm and 11pm yesterday.

The intruder was described as a male Caucasian of lean build, more than 1.8m tall, in his mid to late 20s. He was described as wearing dark clothing, a beanie and had his face covered.
