A 5-year-old boy is dead after being hit by an eight-seater van in Manurewa this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the crash on Dalgety Drive at about 1:30pm.
Police said the boy was playing close to the Dalgety Drive shops and was hit by the van, and even though police arrived at the scene within a minute of the incident, the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van is being interviewed by police, and a serious crash team is carrying out a scene examination.
