Two people were critically injured and another two seriously hurt when the vehicle they were in crashed down a bank in the Karangahake Gorge in Waikato this morning.
Police were called to the crash on State Highway Two in the Waikino area, between Paeroa and Waihi, just after midnight, police northern communications shift commander Inspector Earle McIntosh said.
The road has been closed and was expected to reopen about 5am.
The police serious crash unit was investigating.
