Man charged after Timaru Burger King assault

Police have charged a man with assault after an altercation in a Burger King drive-through left a Timaru businessman fighting for his life.

Robin Beeby, 47, was taken to hospital shortly after 1am yesterday with serious injuries after an alleged assault in the drive-through lane outside the Burger King, the Timaru Herald reported.

Mr Beeby was in critical condition in Timaru Hospital last night.

A man will appear in the Timaru District Court charged with assault following the incident, said Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald.

More charges were likely.

Police had obtained security camera footage from a service station and the Burger King, he said.

A well known cricketer in Timaru, Mr Beeby owns a road maintenance company, Beeby Contracting Ltd, with his brother Michael. He has two children.
