Man repeatedly attacked by a cow

A farmer has been flown to hospital after being repeatedly attacked by a cow in the Bay of Plenty.

The 50-year-old Opotiki man was with his wife working in the yards with a mob of cows when one attacked the man.

The cow attacked the man three times and the he received serious chest injuries as a result.

St John ambulance staff picked up the man from his Opotiki property and drove him to an airfield to meet the Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter. The helicopter was sent because of the time-critical nature of the man's injuries, a crewman said.

The farmer was flown to Whakatane Hospital in a moderate condition.
