Manhunt after fatal stabbing

A man has been fatally stabbed in the Hamilton suburb of Melville and police are appealing to the public to help find a vehicle believed to have fled the scene.

Police were called to a Catalina Dr house shortly after 5.45pm yesterday and found the 46-year-old man unresponsive, said Detective Senior Sergeant Chris Page of Hamilton CIB.

They started CPR on the man and were joined by ambulance officers a short time later.

"After about 40 minutes it was assessed the CPR was unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced dead, his death is being treated as suspicious." Finding a vehicle that left the scene before police arrived was now a major focus for the inquiry team, Mr Page said.

"We're after any information from the public on the location of a blue and silver Toyota Lucida people-mover, registration number EFT114."

Anyone who has seen the vehicle was asked to contact the inquiry team at the Hamilton central police station, ph (07) 858 6200 or information can be left anonymously on the confidential crimeline, 0800 Busthem (0800 287843).
