Murder charge follows Auckland stabbing

A 29-year-old man will appear in the Auckland District Court tomorrow charged with murder following the death of a woman who was allegedly stabbed at a learning institute on Queen St earlier today.

A 22-year-old man is in Auckland Hospital with serious injuries sustained during the attack.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Newman said the woman's body had been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination is scheduled to get underway tomorrow.

"We are working through the process of formal identification and contacting her family. Once the proper processes have been carried out we will be able to release her name."

Earlier today, a St John spokeswoman said paramedics attended the incident at 12.22pm and two patients were taken to Auckland Hospital.

One was in a critical condition and another in a serious condition.

TVNZ's One News reported the stabbing happened at an international school where the woman victim, in her early 20s, was sitting an exam.

The alleged offender was the victim's husband, who had flown into the country from India, One News reported.

One witness, Joe Johar, told the programme that people were screaming.

"I see a guy who got stabbed in his neck and he was bleeding badly."

Det Snr Sgt Newman told One News said police were dealing with a lot of people at the scene.

"We're dealing with quite a lot of people in the building, there's a lot of people outside of the building - we're trying to establish what's actually gone on and who's played what role in the incident."
