Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has announced this year’s election will be held on November 7.

National MPs have just completed their first caucus meeting of the year in Christchurch.

Labour is doing the same in Auckland.

Saturday, November 7, had already been the most mentioned as a likely date.

Several pundits were picking the date as it falls after the American mid-terms — set for November 3 — which will be a key indicator for how United States President Donald Trump’s remaining two years in office will fare. — RNZ
