Police are looking into the circumstances of a boating tragedy at Auckland's Panmure Basin this morning where one man died and another two were rescued.
Emergency services rushed to the suburban lagoon shortly before 10.30am.
Three men left the Waipuna Rd boat ramp in Mt Wellington around 10am to go fishing.
The boat capsized and the men were thrown overboard about 10m from shore.
Police believe the trio were not wearing lifejackets.
Two of the boaties managed to make it back to the shore but a third needed assistance from bystanders and died soon after, despite efforts to resuscitate him.
Police are in the process of advising the victim's family.
A number of witnesses were interviewed at the scene and the two survivors are speaking with police.
The dinghy sank and has not yet been recovered.
