Rescue mission from Clarence River area

Marlborough Civil Defence are evacuating six people from the Clarence River area this morning.

Police are also involved in the rescue to bring the group this morning.

Civil Defence said the weather is rainy and windy and the region still faced a number of challenges.

The Pelorus River area in the Marlborough Sounds received 112mm of rain since yesterday morning, with more rain forecast through until Thursday.

There had been flooding on State Highway 6 west of Canvastown and the Wakamarina River had burst its banks.

Thirty rafters and kayakers had to be rescued from the same area yesterday.

Police confirmed they were co-ordinating today's efforts.

"Our current information is that they are safe and well,"  a spokeswoman said.
