Dunedin artist Ayesha Green has won the New Zealand Contemporary Arts Award, announced in Hamilton last night, with her work Nana’s Birthday.

Green’s painting, an acrylic on plywood, won from 52 finalists and earned the artist $25,000.

Judge Fiona Partington said the painting summarised a long life of nurturing and the simple life shared by families everywhere over generations.

The award is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and attracted more than 300 entries from New Zealand and overseas.
