Same robber hit three banks, say police

Three Hamilton banks were robbed by the same man and police say they want the public's help to put him behind bars.

The man first hit the ASB Bank in Chartwell on October 2, before robbing the Westpac Bank in Chartwell nearly a fortnight later.

His third robbery was the Hamilton East branch of the BNZ earlier this week.

In each case the robber handed a note to tellers demanding money before threatening staff.

Detective Daryl Smith, from Hamilton police, said after the BNZ robbery a customer chased the man but lost him.

The robber is described as a solidly built Maori or Polynesian, aged 25 to 35 years and about 1.8cm tall.

Anyone with information on any of the robberies should call police on 0800 BUSTHEM (0800 287 843).
