Screaming heard at homicide scene

A man is dead after a loud party and a fight in the Auckland suburb of Mt Roskill overnight.

Neighbours reported hearing fighting and screaming on the street where the man's body was found in the early hours of this morning (Friday).

"We heard a party at around 11pm. At 12.30pm we heard a commotion and then at 1.30am there was a female screaming,'' said neighbour Melanie George.

Another neighbour, who did not want to be named, heard voices and fighting at the top of Nash St in the early hours of the morning.

A police tent is still on Nash St and officers are in the area.

The intersection of Nash St and Richardson Rd has been cordoned off.

Police have been looking at a broken letterbox and a discarded shoe and sock.

The body of the man is still at the scene and a hearse arrived shortly before 9am.

Police have been going door-to-door and interviewing neighbours.

They have released few details, except to confirm that they have launched a homicide investigation.
