Second dog attack in 24 hours

A woman and a young child are recovering from serious wounds after being mauled in two separate dog attacks in Auckland over the weekend.

Owners of both dogs involved have agreed to have them put down.

This afternoon a six-year-old boy was set upon by an American bulldog in the West Auckland suburb of Waimauku, when he was playing at a friend's house, 3 News reported.

The attack left the child needing stitches to the top of his head.

The dog's owner said his dog had never shown any indications of violence before.

"The honest thing to do is to have him put down -- I can't predict what he is going to do now," the owner said.

Yesterday, Jo Rammer was walking with her boyfriend in Manukau when a pit-bull pushed past its gate as a visitor was leaving the house.

Ms Rammer suffered injuries to her stomach and foot, with bites narrowly missing her vital organs.

The dog's owner, Wayne Anderson, said he had to "wrestle" his dog off Ms Rammer.

"I grabbed the dog and ripped its jaws apart," he said.

Animal Management they expected to make a decision on whether charges against the dog owners in the next few days.
