Sir Edmund Hillary's Rolex watch, given to him after he scaled Mt Everest, is on display after his children fought to stop his widow selling it.
Sir Ed's children, Peter and Sarah, this year obtained a High Court injunction stopping his widow, June, Lady Hillary, from selling at auction treasures he had collected since he and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay conquered Mt Everest on May 29, 1953.
The Rolex Oyster Perpetual watch, presented to Sir Ed soon after he climbed Mt Everest, has been included in a collection of new artefacts from his life, now on display at the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
Sarah Hillary said it was fantastic to have the watch on display.
