A house has been extensively damaged in a suspicious fire on the West Coast early today.
Emergency services were called to the property, on Nikau Road at Mokihinui, north of Westport, about 4.20am, southern fire communications shift manager Andrew Norris said.
The building was adjacent to another property that was the target of an arson attack a couple of weeks ago, he said.
Nobody was in the house at the time, but it was not abandoned.
"It was severely damaged by the fire," Mr Norris said.
Fire investigators were on their way to the scene.
