Teenager admits attacking pensioners

A teenager has admitted a New Plymouth home invasion which left two pensioners, one a stroke victim, in hospital.

Joshua Brook Parkinson, 18, pleaded guilty in New Plymouth District Court yesterday to a string of assault, aggravated assault and burglary charges arising from the April attack, the Taranaki Daily News reported.

Parkinson broke into the couple's Wallath Road, Westown home where he punched the woman, in her 60s, to the ground before attacking the man.

The 74-year-old stroke victim was punched repeatedly, before having an ironing board thrown at him and a hot drink poured over him.

Parkinson left after smashing ornaments in the home and the couple were admitted to Taranaki Base Hospital.

Police, who dropped two charges of injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, were able to trace Parkinson after discovering a print left by him on a window he had entered the house through.

He was remanded for sentence.
