Thompson, 54, has pleaded not guilty to the three counts of using a document for pecuniary advantage after claiming she held a PhD from the London School of Economics (LSE) -- credentials she used when applying for New Zealand public service jobs in 1989, 1998 and 2004.
The LSE said a PhD was never conferred on Thompson, though it had received three bound copies of her thesis.
A decision on whether she will be tried by a jury or by a judge sitting alone will be made when she reappeared in Wellington District Court on February 2.
