Two quakes rattle Matata

Two earthquakes shook the Matata area of Bay of Plenty around midnight.

The first, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale, struck at 11.59pm and was 10km north of Matata at a depth of 5km, GNS Science reported.

A second quake struck at the same location at 12.03am today. It measured 3.6.

Both would have been felt in the Bay of Plenty.
