A woman has died and her brother and 7-year-old daughter are seriously injured after a car collided with a freight train in Stratford this morning.
The woman named on the Stuff website as Antoinette Hess, 48, a farmer from Kaponga, died at the scene and her 63-year-old brother was airlifted to Taranaki Hospital in a critical condition.
Mrs Hess' daughter was also taken to hospital in an ambulance, police said.
The accident happened on the intersection of Flint Road East and Broadway, on State Highway 3 at 9.15am.
The three were on their way to the annual Taranaki A&P summer show at the nearby Stratford showgrounds.
