ODTtv: American Footballer exercises right to free speech and gets abused

In America it is enshrined in law that you must stand and pay your respects to the American flag when the national anthem is played.

Colin Kaepernick, who plays football for the San Francisco 49ers, decided not to stand when it played during a pre-season game. He was using this as a protest in support of Black Lives Matter.

People, like Donald Trump, are now telling him to “find another country” - which is weird, because the in US they hold up freedom of expression and speech as one of the cornerstones of their society.

Pat Brittenden and Dene MacKenzie look at this event trying to figure out why Americans address their flag like they are in a cult.
