Where are they now?
JESS CAIRNS
2012: Passionate about the outdoors, Cairns also captained the school’s top netball team, which won the B grade at the Otago tournament. She wanted to be a farmer.
2022: After gaining an agricultural science degree with first class honours, Cairns worked as a head shepherd and stock manager for four years before deciding to return to university to complete a graduate diploma in secondary school teaching. She now teaches agriculture, junior science and chemistry at Gore High School but still has the farming lifestyle she loves, as her partner manages a farm near Riversdale. She is still involved in netball, umpiring games, captaining the the Ex High Black team, and coaching the Gore High School senior B team and the Eastern Southland under-18 team.
