'Evil acts': Priest raped dying friend's son

A student priest who raped his dying friend's 12-year-old son will be sentenced in Melbourne for his "evil acts".

Paul Pavlou (59) was studying to become a priest when he stayed with his friend, who had terminal cancer, in 2003 and raped the man's son three times.

After the attacks, Pavlou would tell the victim that he loved him and that he was a "special child" and a "child of god", the County Court has heard.

The victim reported the rapes to police 13 year later, but Pavlou initially claimed he couldn't recall molesting the boy.

He would later plead guilty to three counts of sexual penetration of a child under 16, for which he will be sentenced on Monday.

His victim, who is now an adult, said he cried himself to sleep for years after the "evil" crimes.

"To betray your dying best friend (and his partner) by raping their young son is one of the most evil acts I've ever heard of," he said in an emotional victim impact statement last week.

"I never got the childhood I deserved."
