Britain's Ministry of Defense says radioactive liquid from a nuclear powered submarine spilled into a river during maintenance work, but there is no evidence of any contamination.
The ministry says some liquid coolant from the submarine HMS Trafalgar leaked while being piped through a hose to an onshore tank at the Devenport naval base in southwest England.
The ministry says in a statement released on Tuesday that about 280 liters of coolant spilled onto the jetty and into the river Tamar on early Friday morning after the hose ruptured.
The statement says no radioactive contamination was detected in the surrounding environment.
