An opinion poll indicates that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's party may be gaining ground on the main opposition Conservatives.
The Ipsos MORI survey for The Observer newspaper put Brown's Labour Party at 31 percent, six points behind the Conservative Party -- the narrowest opposition lead since December.
Most other recent polls have shown a Conservative lead of about 14 points.
Ipsos MORI interviewed 1006 adults by telephone between November 13 and 15. No margin of error was given, but in samples of a similar size it is plus or minus 3 percent.
Brown must call a national election to be held by June.
