A rigorous training schedule, hard work and sweat have paid off for University of Otago student Jade Fielding.

Jade placed first in the FISAF Senior Individual Section at the 2017 National Sport Aerobics Championships, held last weekend in Christchurch.

This section was strongly contested with intense two minute routines integrating agility, strength, flexibility and aerobic endurance with music and dance.

Jade also won the Adult Open Teams Section, competing as a pair with Lincoln University student Kylie Lyders, from Lawrence. Jade is coached by former NZ representative Tess Mullins.

Selected to represent New Zealand, Jade will travel with three other athletes to Leiden, The Netherlands, to compete at the FISAF World Fitness Championships in October.

Jade and fellow University of Otago student Rebecca Fisher, along with Emily Lawn (Christchurch) will compete in the Senior Individual Section and Pia Rogers (Whangamata) will compete in the Cadet section.

New Zealand Competitive Aerobics Federation President Debbie Norton, from Christchurch, will travel with the team as their coach. Chair of the FISAF International Technical Committee Tanya Houpt, from Wellington, will act as Head Judge at the competition.

This year a new competition format was used to select, qualify and develop the team to represent New Zealand. Athletes were required to submit video recordings of their routine in May, June and September to show progression and receive feedback, as well as competing at Regional and National Competitive Aerobics Events.
