St John staff wheel an injured man from Dunedin's historic courthouse to an ambulance in Dunbar St yesterday.

St John spokesman Ian Henderson said an ambulance was called to the courthouse just before 3pm after reports a man had been injured in a fall at the court.

The courthouse is being restored by Dunedin construction company Amalgamated Builders.

The man, aged in his 50s, sustained moderate injuries and was taken to the Dunedin Hospital emergency department, Mr Henderson said.

Ministry of Justice commercial and property general manager Fraser Gibbs said the man fell from a mobile scaffold unit at the courthouse.

``The man fell about two metres from the scaffolding on to the ground.''

The ministry's health and safety consultant was investigating the incident with the co-operation of Amalgamated Builders, he said.
