Alexia White (4), of Waitati, is lost in a book as Rainbow Rosalind the fairy (Rosalind Manowitz) entertains people at one of the Blueskin Bay Library’s 150th anniversary celebrations yesterday.

Dunedin Public Libraries events co-ordinator Kay Mercer said the  library was one of the oldest in Dunedin.

Blueskin Bay librarian Louise Booth said the library was originally in Waitati School and was supported by the Mutual Improvement Association.

The association gave 20 lectures over six months in the makeshift library.

The present  library was built in 1992 and upgraded in 2013. Yesterday, children attended a musical performance and former Dunedin City Library librarian Mary Ronnie (91) spoke at a reception last night.

A digital workshop, for residents  to digitally preserve photos and historical documents, would be held later this month.
