Otago Girls High School business team Imperial Enterprise has swept aside competitors in the annual Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Scheme to become the regional winner representing Otago in the national awards next month.

Imperial, whose members are Brooke Alexander, Amber Nash, Alana Byrne, Kathryn Seque, Lana Yee, Rochelle Todd and Mikaela Leacock, have developed a promotional gift bag featuring images of well-known Dunedin tourist destinations. It retails for $4 and more than 3500 have been ordered.

The team was one of 16 companies from eight Otago high schools attending the young enterprise awards at the Otago Museum last night, which are co-ordinated by the Otago Chamber of Commerce, promoting business ongoing practical studies during the school year.

Aside from the overall award, Imperial won five of the six subcategories; best annual report, best marketing plan, media awards, best financial performance and excellence in business, with Otago Girls High School team Yello Box winning most innovative product.

Earlier in the year, Queens High School team Medea Corp won best business plan, St Hildas Collegiate School team Iconic South won best oral presentation and Imperial Enterprise the most potential for investment.

During the year, the 80 students in the teams were assessed on various categories and business disciplines, with their marks accumulated toward last night's regional final.
