A Cromwell tradition is swinging into its 38th year, and the town’s annual Lions golf tournament is once again raising funds for a local cause.

Each year, the Cromwell Lions partner with a different community group to share in the proceeds of the tournament.

This year, the chosen recipient is Cromwell Primary School’s parent-teacher committee SoKs (Support our Kids).

Group chairwoman and school teacher Nicole Fraser said money raised would be used to kit out the school’s new Block A.

Funds were needed for the school to buy chairs, tables, and other furnishings and equipment, she said.

Cromwell Lions Club member Garry Morton said the tournament would follow a four-person Ambrose format, with space for 30 teams.

The format involved each player in a team teeing off, the best shot being selected, the other players moving their balls to that spot to continue playing, and then the process repeating until the hole was completed.

"It’s easy to have mixed teams of golfers and non-golfers," Mr Morton said.

"Everyone can go out there and have a bit of fun."

Local businesses were being asked to support the cause through different sponsorship options, and Cromwell lawyers On Point Legal had come on as naming right sponsors for the day.

Mr Morton said the Lions club was excited to back a cause aiding "the kids in the community".

"For us, it was quite an important thing to get behind them and support them in getting some money to provide stuff for the kids in the classroom."

Last year’s golf tournament raised more than $32,000 towards a new den for Cromwell Scouts.
