The "Romance of Cole Porter" concert, to be held this Saturday from 7.30pm at Hanover Hall, will feature Dunedin City Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Nick Cornish.
The programme will feature instrumental and vocal standards, with guest singer Lucy Appleton making her debut performing songs such as Love for Sale, Night and Day, Begin the Beguine, I Get A Kick Out Of You, and In the Still of the Night.
Along with directing the orchestra for the past 10 years, Cornish is principal oboe with Dunedin Symphony Orchestra and a renowned jazz saxophonist.
Founded by the late Calder Prescott in 1989, the DCJO is an 18-piece big band featuring saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and a full rhythm section, providing a platform for established and emerging musicians.
Saturday’s performance will feature solos from some of Dunedin’s leading jazz musicians, including Mike Gaches and Ralph Miller on trumpet, Peter Claman on trombone, Elliot Tay on tenor saxophone, and Cornish himself on alto saxophone.
