Crusaders horses put through paces at new stadium

The Crusaders match-day horses have had their first gallop inside Christchurch's new stadium.

The club is ramping up efforts to save the 30-year tradition after weeks of fan protests after the announcement that they would not feature at One NZ Stadium.

Crusaders’ management said on Wednesday the horses have now undergone their first physical test at the new stadium.

The move follows an earlier testing session during the Super Round, where riders walked around the stadium while it was at full capacity to gauge noise and lighting.

The club originally retired the horses due to the narrow 7m gap between the sideline and the grandstands

The Crusaders said the test had taken place but there was "still lots to work through" before they could make a full return.
