No bus extension

Submissions to the Otago Regional Council by Coast Rd residents, seeking an extension of the Palmerston to Dunedin bus service via Warrington and Seacliff, have been turned down.

ORC transport manager Bruce Ramsay said the present "park-and-ride" arrangements for Coast Rd residents, which allow them to catch the Palmerston to Dunedin bus at Evansdale or Waitati, should continue.

The Palmerston service would be run by Dunedin Passenger Transport from July 1, but the unofficial "Palmerston loop" service via Stour, Burraness and Tiverton Sts would not continue, Mr Ramsay said.

However, the Palmerston to Dunedin service would continue to travel on the Waikouaiti loop via Beach St and Thomas St and also into Karitane, he said.

Graeme McDonald, the owner and operator of Palmerston Minibuses, which has lost the ORC contract, did not want to comment.

Dunedin Passenger Transport director Kayne Baas said the same timetable, with three return trips a day between Palmerston and Dunedin from Mondays to Fridays, would apply.
