Pascall gives Licorice Allsorts the chop

You either love them or hate them.

But no matter how you feel about Pascall's Licorice Allsorts, nothing will save them now that they've been given the chop.

Mondelez - the parent company for Pascall and Cadbury - has announced it will no longer be making the colourful licorice treats.

"To meet changing consumer preferences, we regularly review, introduce new products and remove those that consumers aren't buying," a Mondelez spokesman told Stuff.co.nz today.

The sweet treats, invented in the 19th century by British company Bassett's, are currently available in a 200g and 400g black packet.

They have been made available to generations of Kiwis and the most popular way to eat them is to peel back each layer of licorice one at a time - savouring every bite.

Members of the public are already complaining about the demise of the licorice treats, with one woman posting on Twitter: "RIP Licorice Allsorts. I'll miss the OCD way I have to eat you by pulling you apart piece by piece."

Licorice Allsorts is not the only popular treat to face the chopping block; with Snifters and Sparkles all getting the chop in recent years, much to the disapproval of fans.
