2 respond to track request

The Central Otago District Council has received two submissions on Greenfield Rural Opportunities Ltd's application for retrospective land use consent for earthworks undertaken within the Mannorburn and Lake Onslow Landscape Management Area.

Details of the submissions have yet to be released. The matter is expected to be heard by the council hearings panel during its meeting next month.

Greenfield applied for retrospective consent to construct a track through the property, as well as retrospective consent for gravelling the track, which are both considered discretionary activities.

Applications were lodged after the council issued an abatement notice to cease work on the upgrade, following several complaints from people in the area.

Greenfield started working on the track in February.

Its application stated the track was constructed to better align access to Lake Onslow Station with topography of the property, situated near Ettrick.

Amended access deviates from the original farm track by 200m and breaches a boundary of the property by 15m, although affected parties are not concerned.

Gravel was required to make the track accessible in all weather conditions.
