Several staff from the early days of the Lauder research station will be among those attending the 50th anniversary celebrations next week.
Event convener Gordon Keys, who worked at Lauder from 1963 to 1995, said about 60 people had registered for the reunion, being held on April 28 and 29.
Most are from New Zealand but a few Australians are also making the trip.
A display will be set up in Central Stories in Alexandra to tie in with the event.
"We're having some panels on display, with science and social aspects of life as it was back then, with some exhibits set up in Central Stories and a touch screen with the history of the people and science, that runs as well, " Mr Keys said.
A series of talks from key figures in the station's history will take place next Thursday at Central Stories, with topics including the satellite programme, the instrument revolution, solar radiation, international links, climate and CO2, and early Lauder science.
A dinner will be held that evening. More talks are on the programme the following morning at Central Stories, followed by a visit to Lauder and tour of the site.
Anyone is welcome to attend the talks or celebration but they need to register for the event by contacting Mr Keys on jgkeys@xtra.co.nz
