A blessing was held yesterday at the Roxburgh home that was the scene of a fatal shooting last week. A homicide investigation is under way after Lesley Ann Johnston (60) died at her Smith St home.
The officer in charge of the investigation, Detective Sergeant Derek Shaw, said the comprehensive scene search in and around the house had now been completed.
The property had been cordoned off and guarded since the incident happened on Friday but was "returned back" to the family yesterday after a karakia and blessing ceremony that involved Mrs Johnston's family, staff from the Roxburgh Children's Health Camp, where she worked, Maori elders and the police investigation team, Det Sgt Shaw said.
The completion of the scene search marked the end of only one phase of the inquiry. The woman's husband, whom police have declined to name, was admitted to Dunedin Hospital with gunshot wounds on Friday.
The man was still in hospital yesterday, he said. Hospital staff declined to give any information on the man's condition.
At its meeting yesterday, the Roxburgh Community Board observed a minute's silence as a mark of respect for Mrs Johnston.
