Board backs reserve land sale

A recommendation for the purchase of reserve land to make way for the expansion of Cromwell New World will be presented to the Central Otago District Council.

The Cromwell Community Board on Tuesday recommended the council agree to sell 609sq m of the Waenga Drive Greenway Reserve to adjoining landowner Foodstuffs South Island Properties.

The sale will be on terms and conditions to be agreed by the council’s chief executive, Sanchia Jacobs, at a price based on valuation advice.

The purchase of the reserve land is to make way for a 758sqm expansion of the existing supermarket and to allow for a new entrance.

The meeting was told the purchase was dependent on the land being developed in line with the landscape concept plan provided by Foodstuffs, the sale price being determined based on valuation advice, and final detail of the redevelopment of the reserve adjoining Cromwell New World being signed off and arranged and funded by Foodstuffs.

Final sign-off of practical completion is to be by the council’s Parks and Recreation manager.

Foodstuffs was also required to obtain resource consent for the boundary adjustment and all necessary land-use consents, and meet all survey and legal costs.

The Minister of Conservation also needs to consent to the revocation of the reserve status of the land.

The board approved the proposal and all submissions received will be considered by council’s hearings panel.
