Flanked by art by Dick Frizzell at Alexandra’s Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery as they prepare to deliver a workshop during the inaugural Central Otago primary school writers’ festival this week are Alexandra Primary School pupils (back from left) Jack Sinnamon (12), Leon Morris (13), Mackai Hancock (12), James Avenell (12),  Quin Richan (12),   (front  from left) Flynn Millar (11), William Miller (11) and Callum Redgrave (11).

The boys, along with another Alexandra Primary School pupil Cade Roberts (11), have set up the APS Weekly Willow YouTube channel, for which they film weekly segments about upcoming events, news and weather.

Director Jack,  who came up with the idea, said other roles in the group included cameramen, reporters, scriptwriters and actors.

Their clips are already averaging about 200 views each time, and the boys last week delivered a workshop on film-making and editing during the writers’ festival, organised by pupils at their school.

More than 120 pupils from primary schools in Alexandra, Clyde, Omakau and Poolburn have taken part in the festival, and more than 80 of those pupils took part in two days of festival workshops on Thursday and yesterday.

Pupils and teachers hoped the festival would be held again.
