The festival, at the Alpha St recreation ground, was the first major car show the car-mad couple had attended in the South Island since moving from Auckland last September.
They were impressed with the event's scale.
"It's a good turnout for a small area ... and the standard of cars is great too," Mr Flude said.
The Fludes, who own seven Chevrolets and one Pontiac, which are often used for weddings in Central Otago, are members of Cromwell-based car club Alpine Street Machines.
Southland Ford Falcon Club president Peter Herrick said there were almost 500 cars and motorcycles at the show, making it the biggest since it began 16 years ago.
About 3000 people attended.
"It's a great venue, great weather and good people," Mr Herrick said.
The show was followed by an after-party and camp-out at the Cromwell racecourse, organised by Alpine Street Machines.
