''Not ever go your Mum's room never again.''

That was the message from 3-year-old Mackenzie Ah Mann to her cousin Georgia Weir (4) after the pair were trapped inside Georgia's mother's bedroom yesterday and had to be rescued by the Alexandra Fire Brigade.

The Alexandra girls were playing in the room and shut the door, which had a broken handle. Georgia's mother, Rachel Day, tried unsuccessfully to open the door, eventually phoning the fire brigade for help.

''The fire 'gade rescued us, '' Mackenzie said.

''They picked us up, and lifted us out the window,'' Georgia explained. The girls sat quietly on the bed, as instructed, waiting for rescuers to arrive. Then Georgia opened the window so they could be lifted out. The firefighters managed to open the door with a screwdriver. The cousins were still wide-eyed by their adventure long after the brigade had left, but stayed well clear of bedrooms.
