Cromwell hospital plans approved

Concept plans for a hospital within Cromwell's Golden View Lifestyle Village (GVLV) have been approved by the Cromwell Community Board.

The sale of Central Otago District Council land for the hospital was subject to vendor agreement to the plans for the hospital development. The plan features 36 hospital-level beds, 12 dementia beds, eight one-bedroom assisted-living apartments, and another 11 one-bedroom apartments, which can be used for either assisted living or partners of people within the high dependency care areas.

Board members supported the facility's expansion.

"The sooner they [hospital developers] can get going on this the better," board member Shirley Calvert said.

The lodge and 52 of the 94 two- and three-bedroom villas at Golden View have already been built and have occupants, and the village was officially opened earlier this month.

Another 25 villas are being built, and the remaining villas will be completed by March 2020.

Golden View manager Trish Bulling said this month the hospital facility would be built on GVLV land between the retirement village and Nichol's Garden Cafe, and it was hoped construction would start in the first quarter of next year.
