Showing off the defibrillator donated by St John Roxburgh to the town’s new swimming pool are (from left) St John emergency medical officer Jack Gilchrist, Ida MacDonald Pool committee chairwoman Sally Feinerman and Commander of the Order of St John Roxburgh Doug Dance.

Swimming is great exercise and many Roxburgh residents have been enjoying improving their fitness in the newly opened Ida MacDonald Pool.

This week the pool became a safer place after the donation of an automated external defibrillator.

The safe and easily operated machine is used to treat sudden cardiac arrest.

Installed in the entrance to the pool, the new equipment was easy to find and operate.

A keypad kept it secure until needed when a call to 111 would reveal the necessary code.

Mrs Feinerman said it was good that emergency services could be immediately alerted.
