Golf tournaments abound in Central Otago but this month there is a unique one on offer complete with trophies and prizes.

Gold Diggers Mini Golf owner Michele Lonsdale said to celebrate the returfing of their 18-hole course they were holding their first tournament.

"We are aiming to make this an annual event, with the view that it will get better over time, with even better prizes to be won."

The Gold Diggers Open tournament was in part a thank you to the people who supported their business which meant they were able to expand and improve it, Mrs Lonsdale said.

Teeing off on November 29 and 30 at 10am each day there would be two sections — the open for all ages and a junior open for players under 13.

With prizes ranging from a family e-bike tour to wine to vouchers for meals and movies along with signed All Black jerseys in the mix the competition is bound to be fierce.

Winners of each section of the Golf Diggers Open will each take home one of these trophies.

In the event of a tie time had been allowed for a 9-hole playoff on Sunday just before the prizegiving, Mrs Lonsdale said.

As well as golf there would be a sausage sizzle and music in the afternoon from Paul Foulds, she said.
